The city of York is found in the English county of Yorkshire and was, hundreds of years ago, the capital city of northern England. The first York Minster was a tiny construction of wood in which the Northumbrian King Edwin was, in 627, baptised. It wasn’t until 1080 that the first substantial building made of stone appeared on the site. Constructed by Thomas of Bayeux it was extended by Archbishop Roger who constructed a north transept and a south transept. Following many more alterations and additions the cathedral was complete and consecrated in 1472. Inside has the the world’s largest medieval stained glass window. York has other places to visit including; the Jorvik Viking Centre, Barley Hall, the National Railway Museum, The Shambles, York Castle Museum and York Dungeon.

Besides all of the incredible ancient and historic visitor attractions introduced above, the city of York is a thrilling city to go out partying in or experience the theatre, opera or live music.
