The ways to a healthy life are many, but not all cater to the spiritual, physical and mental aspects. When we do traditional exercises, we hone our physical makeups. We pray to strengthen the spiritual aspect, while we do brain teasers to keep our brains sharp. But what can we do that can address all three? We can do yoga, an ancient meditation technique that has survived hundreds of years. Why survive such a long time? Well, maybe it’s because yoga positions just works?

The art of yoga first originate in India. A country whose culture and history is as rich and divers as the oldest countries in the world. It is also the country where Buddhism originated, which by they way is the fourth largest religious denomination in the world today behind the big three. After all these years, yoga has survived so you just know that the Indians have invented something truly useful. Maybe it is because Buddha himself practiced it? Or should I say, started it.

So, a meditation technique that was established by the enlightened Buddha himself. What now? Well if you are a Buddhist, it would mean a lot of course, but if you are a normal practitioner then it adds to the glorious history of the art. In the beginning, of course yoga positions are not as diverse and numerous as it is today. It all started with the lotus position. What is it? Well if you can imagine the Buddha sitting cross legged, then you have just pictured the lotus position. Of course today the number of positions has grown exponentially. But in the end, the essence of the original lotus position is maintained.

Now, of all the positions available to the yoga practitioner today, which yoga position is perfect for you? Of course it all depends on your needs and what you can accomplish. Don’t expect to do the more advanced positions if you haven’t practiced yoga long enough though. But if you are looking to just meditate, then the lotus position is good enough for you. But if you need to add the physical aspect to your meditation, there are positions for that as well. Of course there are positions for those looking to hone the physical and mental aspect as well. In all, there are a lot of position to learn and choose from that you can choose among them all which can offer the best benefits for you. You can do each one at a time, or you can choose a position that caters to all three, it’s your choice.

If you wish to learn more about yoga positions, you can go to your nearest yoga instructor and have him or her teach you what you need to know. However, if you don’t have the time to visit one, all it takes is some poking around the net and soon you will find good reference material to teach you all the positions you need. No need to go to a practitioner and pay a fee every time you wish to learn a new yoga position, all you need to do is click and voila, all the positions you will ever need. And after trying out all the positions you can find, you will definitely find one that is right for you.
