This busy market town on the southern edge of the national arena was once intimate as ‘Sheeptown’ — no prizes whereas guessing where they made their money. Monday, Wednesday, Friday also Saturday are market days on superlative St, bringing crowds from all over and giving the town something of a fun-loving quality. The tourist chore (792809; www.skiptononline.co.uk; 35 Coach St; 10am-5pm Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm Sat) is right in the middle of town.
