Regardles of the same language, not talking about the spelling differences, British and Americans have a big visible veiety in probably every aspect of life. Few might say that there are more similarities than differences but it is hard to see any match beyondbesides music and movies. But then, may be art really has no borders, so, we’ll simply rule out that argument. We can’t actually use the word ‘entertainment’ in spite of art here as one major difference noticed in British and American lifestyle is of sports. Definitely, football has marred that difference to a great extent, but there is still one small difference that can be simply seen in the local playgrounds. In America, it is more probably to find Pitching machines and other baseball training aids in more or less every locality. On the other hand,, the British have their own pride in playing cricket.
Although both the games are bat and ball games and both require two teams of players and follow somewhat similar rules, there are more differences than one can imagine. Here we are not only talking about the usage of word ‘pitching’ instead of ‘bowling’, but far more technical differences as well. Let’s take look at how the Americans have managed to spend their leisure time differently than the British.
• The first noticeable differencepoimt is a field. The cricket atadiomPs is round in shape and the baseball field is a unique diamond shape. The bat in baseball is a round one with the size of one edge larger than the other. On the other hand, the cricket bat has a flat shape and a rounded handle handle on the top.
• A round ball is used for both games. The ball now used in cricket test matches is red in color and relatively more heavier but has a smaller size. However, the variation is negligible. Both the balls are made of cork. The baseball ball is essentially white with red stitching and in cricket ball, the color is white for ODIs.
• In baseball, the number of umpire can range between one to six. But, usually you can see are four umpires in a field. In cricket, there are typically three umpires, from which two are on the field and third umpire is not in the field. There is also a match referee in cricket.
• In baseball, all the players except the catcher use a glove in one hand. While in cricket, protective gear is worn by the batsmen while other fielders and bowlers do not use any kind of equipment.
• In basketball, individually a batsman is allowed a maximum of three legal pitches. While in cricket, the number of balls per bowler depends upon the number of balls in a game.
• The highest score that can be earned in one hitball is four in baseball. In cricket, the highest hit can be six.
Besides all these difference, the length of both games also differs. Perhaps because of a more fast paced and hectic lifestyle of Americans, baseball games are generally shorter. The test matches in cricket can go up to five days but one day internationals also need almost a complete day to decide a winner.
