No matter how experienced you may be in the field of soccer, a query like How to coach soccer gets you into a thinking mode. This is even more important with respect to soccer coaching because keeping the players motivated all the time is a lot tougher than it seems.
Let me tell you 5 simple tips that’ll help you improve your team’s performance significantly, when followed religiously.
1.Make comprehensive plans: Careful and meticulous planning is essential to achieving success in coaching. Plan meetings with the players before you finalize the team goals and objectives, and take their viewpoints also into consideration. If the desired results are not achieved within the stipulated timelines, your team’s growth is hampered.
Once you’ve finalized the plan, remain committed to it but allow flexibility for minor adjustments. No matter how well made the plans may be they need changes due to sudden events.
2. Kids should enjoy being a part of practice sessions: Design your practice schedule in a way that includes a variety of drills, activities, fun-filled games and exercise so that the kids don’t feel the monotony. It is possible to incorporate this in many ways. For example, after the practice session is over, divide them into small groups and introduce fun games that not only relax their mind but also promote team spirit among them.
3. Both freedom and discipline should complement one another: A coach should always give priority to discipline in the team. However, you must also understand that freedom and some respite from control is as important as the respect for rules. Don’t underestimate the value of freedom and relaxation in teaching soccer.
Permit players some time for them to indulge, relax, or simply unwind. Talking about how to coach soccer, it is also a good idea to take them out for camping or a pleasure trip for a day.
4.Always be supportive and tolerant: Encourage your team to try new things and when you do so, also be tolerant of the mistakes that they make in the process. Keep scrutinizing their activities. If your intervention is necessary because the situation is out of control, correct it but without scolding the kids.
Bear in mind that when you retort, the kids feel intimidated and when you show compassion and encouragement, they feel motivated to do even better.
5. Keep a balance: A training field is the best place to help the kids recognize their soccer skills and talent. It is expected that in a team, there are some great players, some regular, while others are poor in performance. It is a part of your job to make sure that the best players take it upon themselves to improve the performance of the poor ones.
Befriend the good and bad players together so that stay with each other maximum and share the techniques during and after the sessions. It is also vital that they players do not feel that a comparison is being drawn between them.
It must now be your aim to use these techniques in your training sessions to improve the strategies about how to coach soccer.
