Choosing The Design Of Your Game Room May 08

Many people would consider football to be the top ranked sport in the world. They would be wrong. It is billiards. Since, the invention of the game, the number of people who regularly engage billiards has risen greatly. Many people value the game because of its easy and uncomplicated approach. Unlike physical sports such as football that require some physical edge or strategic games such as chess, billiards can be played by almost anyone regardless of their age or sex. It is because of this that many homes today have rooms which have been designed for the playing of this sport. There are many advantages to owning your own special billiard room. Aside from the creative appeal provided by the presence of game room furniture, the option of being able to rack out your billiard balls and cues whenever you want and then having a number of games is a great way of bonding amongst family and friends.

Billiards is a very simple game. Although there are different versions of the game, all the games are played with the same equipment i.e a cue stick which is used in knocking the balls around the billiard table. Long term players of billiard often enjoy, the added benefit of improved sharpness and focus. Many billiard enthusiasts also report incidences of improved muscle coordination particularly between the hands and eyes.

Billiards tables can typically be found in four different sizes. These sizes vary between seven feet to nine feet. The balls used in playing the game can be made from different materials. During the earlier years of its creation, the game used to be played with balls made from ivory or wood. Today however, many of the balls which are used are manufactured from phenolic resin. As the game is played, chalk is sometimes used for the reduction of the frictional effect that occurs between the cue stick and the bridge being formed by the players hand. Doing this is however optional and not a fixed rule of the game.

There is no fixed look for a billiard room and most homes end up having various versions. Traditional designs of these rooms are normally found to include wooden cabinets, billiard clocks and some billiard signs. Today however, it is not uncommon for rooms to also include modern appliances such as televisions and CD holders. Some people might consider the addition of wall art in order to increase the visual appeal of the game room. Table lights are almost always a compulsory inclusion in the construction of the room. These lights can be found in different shapes and sizes. They can either be fixed over the table or placed against the wall. What is of more important is that they provide sufficient and adequate lighting for the game to be played.

Today there are so many international championships that celebrate the game; in such events, people play against each other professionally in a series of games for an eventual winner. However, when all is said and done, the true joy of playing billiards does not exist in the design of the room or the type of instruments used. It instead lies in the joys of friendship and unspoken communication that can be found between two people who are simply knocking the game around.
